Stronger Together: WordCamps and the Future of Our Community

Steve Mosby

WordCamps and Meetups have long been the heart and soul of the WordPress community. Our amazing volunteer-organised events – from small local meetups to large regional flagship events – provide a space where everyone from bloggers and developers to business owners and contributors can come together.

One of the beautiful things about these events, and WordCamps in particular, is that they transcend online drama. When you meet face-to-face, titles and internet arguments tend to fade into the background. You’re no longer an avatar on a screen, but fellow WordPress enthusiasts sharing coffee and ideas.

Even amid the current environment, WordCamps continue to unite people. In fact, many would argue they’re more important than ever right now, serving as a reminder that, at ground level, we all share a common purpose: improving WordPress and helping each other succeed with it.

This talk will cover how teams are continuing to organise events with the sole aim of bringing people together. It’s designed promote the challenges and excitement of running an event, provide insight to what happens in the background, and to inspire more people to step forward and consider volunteering or organising their own events in their community.
