What an absolutely brilliant start to WordCamp Lisboa 2025! Our Community and Contribution Day, held today (Friday, May 16th), truly exceeded all our expectations.
We were thrilled to welcome a massive 98 contributors throughout the day: that’s nearly half of all our WordCamp attendees! Seeing so many people keen to get involved and give back to the WordPress project and community was genuinely inspiring.
The atmosphere was buzzing with collaboration and knowledge sharing. A big highlight was the Translation table, where contributors were busy localising WordPress for various languages. Here’s a snapshot of the amazing work that took place:
- French (France): 2 strings created
- Galician: 34 strings created
- Portuguese (Brazil): 78 strings created
- Portuguese (Portugal): A fantastic 1365 strings created and 59 strings reviewed, with 5 dedicated contributors. Amazing effort for the local community!
- Spanish (Spain): 1 string created
- Total: An incredible 1480 strings created and 59 reviewed across 7 contributors at the Translation table alone!
Beyond the hands-on contribution, we had some incredibly insightful sessions. Steve Mosby gave a truly engaging talk, lifting the lid on what goes into organising WordCamps, highlighting their importance for building community, and hopefully inspiring a few more people to get involved behind the scenes!
Following Steve’s talk, we hosted a lively panel discussion focused on the future of the Portuguese WordPress community. It was brilliant to hear from community members and to have such an engaged audience contributing their thoughts and ideas. Key themes that emerged included the need for more open and accessible communication, strategies for attracting new people, the importance of organising more local meetups, and first-comers’ impressions of this WordCamp, along with ideas for improvement to ensure everyone feels more included.
A massive thank you to every single person who participated in the Community and Contribution Day. Your enthusiasm and willingness to contribute made it a huge success. It was a powerful reminder of the strength and passion within the WordPress community!
