We are looking for volunteers to take on the following roles without the need for prior experience:
- Leading a worktable on Contribution Day
- Participant reception
- General event support
- Session coordination
- Presenting sessions on stage (MC)
- Workshop support, assisting participants during their workshops
- Video capture, assisting in recording the event (multimedia support)
- Photography (requires own equipment)
Contributor Day:
Leading a worktable
- Onboarding new contributors (WP.org, Slack, Git, Trac)
- Briefly explaining the worktable’s goals and activities
- Motivating the worktable towards achieving their goals
- Being available to answer questions and provide guidance
WordCamp Day:
Participant reception
“Welcome to WordCamp” is your primary message for receiving participants at the entrance. The reception team will have extra support during the initial hours, with someone from the organisation present at all times.
- Checking tickets
- Preparing and distributing badges, swag, and T-shirts
- Providing event information and directions to participants
General event support
Assisting with various tasks throughout the event as needed, such as:
- Directing people to the registration area in the morning
- Initiating conversations and assisting lost individuals
- Directing people without badges to reception
- Ensuring that participants entering or leaving rooms during presentations do so as quietly as possible
- Helping distribute microphones throughout the room during Q&A sessions
If you enjoy interacting with people, this is the perfect role for you.
Session coordination
- Collaborating and supporting organisers, speakers, and presenters
- Help the speaker put on the mic
- Set up and display the speaker’s presentation
- Check if the speaker needs anything
- You’ll be responsible for keeping track of the presentation time and informing the speaker by showing the time cards
- Take photos and send them to the communications team
Presenting sessions (MC)
- Introducing speakers and engaging with the audience
- Maintaining a positive atmosphere for both the speaker and the audience
- Closing presentations and starting Q&A sessions
- Communicating announcements and breaks
- Collaborating with speakers and the room coordinator
Workshop support
- Creating a safe and friendly environment for workshop trainers
- Participants require workshop tickets for entry. Your job will be to verify this at the entrance of the room.
- Ensuring that no disruptions occur during a workshop
- Reviewing the workshop with trainers beforehand (recommended)
This role is perfect if you enjoy interacting with people and helping clarify even the most basic doubts.
Video capture (multimedia support)
The recording team will bring all the necessary equipment, and they will clarify any doubts regarding the camera’s operation.
- You will be responsible for recording the sessions.
- Ensuring the video camera is focused on the presenters without obstructions.
This role is perfect for those who prefer attending sessions while volunteering. But please keep in mind that you may not have a shift during the session you want to attend.
Photography
- Capturing emotions and the atmosphere at WordCamp.
- You should bring your own equipment (camera).
